The man from Leeds with a gourmet fast food restaurant that attracts TikTokers
If you’re torn between making a date at a fancy restaurant or somewhere cheap and cheerful, then a venue in Leeds may be the answer to your dilemma.
Restaurant owner Arfan Hussain, 31, has come up with his brand new restaurant concept to save his business during the pandemic.
He now serves gourmet fast food at My Spice and Grill in Kirkstall Road, which he dubbed “modern fast food”, after struggling to attract customers to his former standard Indian restaurant.

Arfan has worked in the food industry since he was 16, his restaurant My Spice and Grill gaining popularity since its revamp in February, attracting students and TikTokers.
The 31-year-old, who lives in Bradford, said: “I just didn’t want to give up to be honest.
“I tried everything I could last year but one day I felt like giving up, it wasn’t working. Then, as I drove alone from the restaurant to Bradford, I was like, “No, it’s not my nature, I shouldn’t give up!”

“‘I’ve known this craft for so many years. Why not try something different? I know it, so let’s try it.'”
He closed the restaurant in October 2020, which he first opened in December 2019, and created an entirely new menu to match the concept.
Customers can choose from a range of “high quality” fast food items like kebabs, burgers, vegan offerings and even Turkish baklava for dessert.
He has installed a new open kitchen to go along with his new menu, where chefs can be seen shaving meat on the rotisserie wheel and baking Arfan’s special bread used for the wraps.
Since the reopening of My Spice and Grill, he has run it like the other restaurants he has run although the food is less sophisticated, with table service.
He said: “I have worked my whole life in fine dining restaurants so we like to provide a fine dining experience. I love chatting with customers and telling them what we do and what we do best. We can advise people on what to have.
“University students and even people from outside Leeds came. I had TikTokers who came to make TikTok videos.
