The Best Fast Food Cafe is a Total Shock – Eat This, Not That

Heavy coffee drinkers know that not all cups are created the same. Of course, personal preferences play a role in an individual’s ranking. For example, some brew their own cup in the morning, others head to the Dunkin ‘drive-thru, stop at Starbucks, or have a regular order at their local coffee shop. Coffee from fast food chains is also an option, but the fast food chain you order from can make or break your morning.

See, for some, coffee is a treat. For others, coffee is a lifeline. Knowing this, we took it upon ourselves to test the taste of five decaffeinated coffees from the fast food chain and rank their infusions from worst to best. So if you are one of the latter, you wouldn’t have to risk paying for a below average cup. Read on to find out which mug is worth your money.

The rumors are true: Burger King has no reign in the fast food coffee realm.

The best word I can think of to describe the taste of BK coffee is ‘hot’. It’s extremely bitter and leaves a dry, burnt taste in the back of your mouth long after you’ve taken a sip. It is brewed with Arabica beans and a medium cup costs around $ 1.50. It’s the second most expensive cup of coffee on this list, which is ironic considering it’s also the worst.

According to the plaque above the self-serve pot, Panera’s decaffeinated coffee has a “medium body with hints of sweet caramel and citrus.” The beans come from Antioquia, Colombia, and a medium cup costs $ 2.39. My first thoughts after sipping Panera coffee for the first time were that it was bitter and strong. When it cooled down a bit, however, it tasted less bitter and was still strong, but much more pleasant to drink. It’s also worth noting that it went through me which can be a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it.

McCafe makes a great cup of coffee. The Premium Roast is made with 100% Arabica beans and, according to the fast food chain’s website, fresh jars are made every 30 minutes. It’s a stronger brew than Wendy’s and Sonic and tastes better with cream and sugar. But, overall, it’s a tasty take-out mug that pairs well with breakfast and costs just $ 0.99.

According to Wendy’s website, the fast food chain’s filter coffee is brewed from “100% Arabica beans from Central and South America” and is medium roast. You can order one of two sizes: small ($ 0.99) or large ($ 1.49), but note that the mugs are larger than those at other restaurant chains.

Wendy’s first sips of coffee were really good. I enjoyed the brew while it was hot, but noticed that the taste became more and more bitter as it cooled. I ended up adding two creams to take away the benefit.
