Terra Madre: natural food restaurant and the largest organic store in one
Located at Loewen by Dempsey Hill, it is Singapore’s largest organic store and natural food restaurant. Terra Madre is directly translated as “Our Mother”, and the name of this brand is a tribute to Mother Earth and represents their dedication to serving local communities with good, healthy and high quality natural foods.
They have a restaurant as well as a store that serves organic produce at competitive prices. Their restaurant offers a variety of dishes from their modern Australian-inspired menu. Open daily from 8am to 10am, the interior of the restaurant is adorned with touches of green among the marble tables and wooden chairs.

They recently launched their breakfast and lunch menu which features over 20 healthy options. Dishes are prepared with high quality ingredients which are purchased fresh almost every other day instead of being frozen. We got to sample a few items from their breakfast and lunch menus.
Spicy Amaranth Bowl
One of the highlights of our breakfast was their spicy amaranth bowl, made with the base of the superfood, amaranth, and also combined with turmeric, black pepper, coconut milk, berries goji and other berries. This dish is suitable for vegans and is also gluten-free.
This was our first time trying amaranth, a very nutritious grain that has an impressive nutritional profile and an excellent source of protein, fiber, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and iron.
The combination of turmeric and black pepper is another powerful combination when prepared correctly as it contains key active ingredients that contribute to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and disease-fighting qualities.
We really enjoyed this unique dish which we haven’t seen on other menus in other restaurants. The texture was similar to a cross between couscous and thick porridge. The coconut milk pairs well with the turmeric and the black pepper notes in every bite were surprisingly delicious with the tartness of the berries.
Crushed avocado with green vine leaf
Another dish we got to try was the Smashed Avocado with Vine Leaf Verde which is loaded with spinach, lime, chili peppers and poached eggs served on multigrain toast. We liked how tangy and refreshing the avocado was and it reminded us of a very well made guacamole. The chili peppers also gave those who love spice an extra boost.
Those who want to end their breakfast on a sweet note can try the Fluffy Pancakes made with banana flour, smoked pecan crumble, caramelized orange, whipped cream and organic maple syrup.
This pancake dish was closer in texture to banana cakes and the caramelized oranges were another unique twist to this dish. The smoked pecan crumble was very nice and went well with the sweet whipped cream.
The Terra Madre lunch menu
As for their lunch menu, a must-try dish is the mix of the fresh selection of salad and vegetable pairings with a choice of proteins. We tried the Asian coleslaw with Kurobuta Berkshire pork skewers as well as the charred carrots with Gochujang baked salmon.
The tangy Asian coleslaw made with wombok, pickled red cabbage, chili, pickled ginger, tamarind dressing, mint and jalapeno was the perfect pair with the Kurobuta Berkshire pork skewers which were perfectly cooked and other ingredients such as thyme, butter, smoked paprika and paprika oil.
Charred baby carrots were served with Dukkah and Tahini. They were very well roasted and the sweetness of the carrots showed through even on their own.
We think this dish pairs best with Gochujang’s spicy and aromatic baked salmon as a protein. The salmon is garnished with yuzu, miso, lemon, spring onions and organic sesame seeds.
To accompany meals, Terra Madre allows customers to choose from a range of refreshing superfood smoothies, slow-pressed juices, kombucha and even organic coffee from Australia.
Terra Madre organic store
The Terra Madre organic store is located in the same space as the restaurant. This organic store is expected to carry a huge range of over 1,000 products, including pantry essentials, organic beverages, confectionery ingredients, and more. There are also specialty products like truffles, oils, spices, vinegars and pastes.
Some interesting products we spotted include unique pastas such as edamame pastas and a wide range of gluten-free options. Other standouts include a decadent, organic hot chocolate from a small family farm in the Amazon region of Peru.
Terra Madre will continue to source and expand its product line in the coming months, and shoppers can visit the Terra Madre website to learn more about the retail store’s selection.
