M&M Soul Food Cafe is now a 5-time repeat Dirty Dining offender
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — When we first visited the location of M&M Soul Food’s Las Vegas Boulevard this summer, owner Tim Gilmore summoned a higher power when asked about the issues of his restaurant with the health district.
“The good Lord does what he does.”
He also described financial difficulties and negligent employees.
“Forgetting their basic 101 little things so it caused – that was a bigger problem for me as an owner. But, like I said, we’re ready to rock and roll again. I’m thrilled to be open and come back to what I do.”
But M&M didn’t get back into the groove.
It was closed again on September 17, making it a five-time repeat offender. Three of them in the last 90 days alone at the location on Las Vegas Boulevard near Sahara Avenue.
RELATED STORIES:
The latest closure was due to failing the re-inspection of the C grade of 36 demerits they achieved on August 22.
To pass the re-inspection, a restaurant cannot obtain more than 10 demerit points. M&M got 33 with seven repeat violations, including improper hand washing, dirty kitchen utensils in clean storage, exposed insulation in the freezer and 11 bags of collard greens cut at unsafe temperatures.
A food handler touched a trash can with gloved hands, then touched ready-to-eat bread with soiled gloves.
There was mold in the ice maker, live and dead insects on the loose flour and elsewhere in the kitchen and inspectors say the required cooling logs “appeared to be tampered with”.
M&M did not have their C grade card displayed and there was no certified food protection officer on site.
Now the man who once greeted us orders us to stay outside.
We wanted him to have a say, so we called him, letting him know we were on a recorded line.
“M&M Soul Food once again presented the most demerits,” said Darcy Spears. “I just wanted to reach out and see if there’s a way to talk about what you’re going through with the health district.”
“Well, first of all, it’s actually old,” Gilmore said.
He calls the September 17 inspection old because M&M regained its A rating with zero demerits on September 19.
He went on to say, “Outside of everything else, all the challenges we have and the loss of business due to us being on your show so many times and what the hell is this what it is.”
Due to a history of non-compliance, M&M Soul Food Cafe has been placed in the health district administrative process.
The health district describes its administrative process as follows:
“Environmental health staff spend a lot of time in facilities when a downgrade occurs, educating staff and resolving issues. This includes reviewing a facility’s procedures to identify how methods can be changed or upgraded. implement, show how to perform the tasks correctly and provide ongoing training. Unfortunately, some facilities are unable to achieve compliance and continue to exhibit a pattern of uncontrollable risk factors for foodborne illness. If this trend continues, we are implementing an incremental process designed to deepen the institution’s education, as well as include increased regulatory requirements. »
Because we talked about it, Gilmore said, “I’m harassed. So I have nothing more to say.”

Tejuinos Don Raul, a food truck on East Lake Mead Boulevard between Nellis and Christy, was closed Sept. 19 for two imminent health risks: no water and inadequate refrigeration.
Inspectors also found several flies in the food preparation area.
Reached by phone, the owner made no comment on the closure.
The health district says Tejuinos Don Raul has not yet scheduled a re-inspection, so it is still closed.
