A new cafe giving shoppers a glimpse of Indian street markets has just opened in the city center.

Serving an all-vegetarian menu, Desi Street Food opened at Pocklingtons Walk and currently offers take-out and delivery service.

The family-run cafe was created by Sukh Singh, who, inspired by a visit to India, was keen to give the people of Leicester the chance to experience Indian street food.

Sukh, who once ran a restaurant, told LeicestershireLive: “I wanted to bring the concept of fast food Indian markets with good home-cooked vegetarian food at an affordable price.

The menu focuses on breakfast, lunch, and snacks, with all-day breakfast options including Desi beans on toast made with spicy baked beans, a Desi breakfast, including chickpea curry, two puri and a chai, a Panjabi breakfast, including two aloo parantha, yogurt, pickles and a chai, and full Indian, including spicy baked beans, two parantha and a Chai.

There are street toasts, such as the original cheese toasty, chili cheese toasty, and Mumbai toastie, which includes spicy mashed potatoes, red onions, tomatoes and green peppers topped with cheese, served with your choice of chutney.

You can get naan wraps, including vegetable samosa wrap and chili paneer wrap, as well as salads, fries, and chaats, including sev puri and aloo tikki chaat. Snacks include vegetable samosas and panjabi pakora.
