First look inside the new Tex-Mex buffet restaurant in Darlington

A new Tex-Mex restaurant has opened in Darlington and has been successful so far.

Cheeky Ranchos opened in Northgate on July 1 and offers a taste of Mexico, via Texas, to Darlington residents.

Brothers Peter and Wayne Sedgwick are the owners and so far they are very happy with the reception the restaurant has received.

The all-you-can-eat buffet offers a range of Tex-Mex dishes, including chili con carne, chicken wings, and ribs.

A traditional Sunday lunch is also offered each week with all the trimmings.

For those who prefer takeout to restaurants, Cheeky Ranchos is also on Just Eat, Deliveroo and UberEats.

Since the closure of the Voodoo Café in 2021, which was Darlington’s only Latin-themed restaurant, Cheeky Ranchos has now filled the void in the market.

Wayne said, “We knew we wanted to do something with this space and one day I was eating Tex-Mex and I thought, why don’t we do it?”

Peter said: “We’re happy with how it’s going so far. It’s been a lot of work, but people seem to like it.

“We don’t know of anything similar in the area, so we’re bringing a bit of Mexico to Darlington.”

The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with Mexican themed decor including sombreros, Frida Kahlo throw pillows and ponchos for anyone who wants to fully commit to the Mexican theme.

If spicy food isn’t your cup of tea, there are other options available, including lemon herb chicken wings.

With a choice of breakfast, lunch or dinner, no one will go hungry at Cheeky Ranchos.

With a well-stocked bar and pool table, this spot is also an option for a casual drink.

As so many of Darlington’s hospitality businesses have bitten the dust during the pandemic, the opening of new venues can only be seen as a benefit to the city.

The restaurant is open from Friday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
