Edinburgh gets Filipino fast food cafe with Jollibee coming to Princes Street
An Asian fast food restaurant that drew in 18-hour queues when it opened its first outlet in the UK is expected to arrive in Edinburgh next year.
Philippine chain Jollibee is famous for its crispy fried chicken, burgers and spaghetti with an exotic twist and operates more than 1,200 restaurants around the world.
The restaurant, which prompted thousands of people to descend on Earl’s Court when they arrived in London three years ago, will take over the former Santander bank branch on Princes Street in 2022 – settling next to the largest McDonalds from the capital.

The company’s bestsellers include the Chickenjoy – a crispy fried chicken made with a secret marinade, Jolly Spaghetti, made with a Filipino-inspired sweet sauce and layers of cheese and hot dog slices and the Jollibee Chicken Burger, priced at just £ 3.99.
Fans reportedly camped out the night before the London restaurant opened, but the company has since grown across the UK, with outlets in Liverpool, Leeds and Reading as well as a larger local in Leicester Square.
A Glasgow version will also open in Sauchiehall Street inside the former Burger King.
A total of 50 new Jollibee restaurants are expected to open across Europe over the next four years as part of a £ 50million expansion program.
Jollibee Chief Marketing Officer Adam Parkinson said, “Community spirit and hospitality are at the heart of the Jollibee brand and Filipino culture.
“When the restrictions are lifted, we know our customers will want to resume their normal social life, and restaurants play a key role in that regard.
