A fire that broke out on Monday morning damaged the structure of the former Concord Lin’s Buffet restaurant.

At around 2:30 a.m., units from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District arrived at the vacant former Lin’s Buffet site at 1400 Willow Pass Road to respond to a massive fire devouring the structure. When fire crews arrived, they reported gunfire from the roof of the structure.

Lin’s Buffet, which had been closed for a few years, had been barricaded and the firefighters took longer to remove the panels from the windows and doors. KPIX reports that fire crews also had to resort to aerial operations to fight the blazes.

The fire was extinguished within an hour and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and is considered “suspicious”, according to the fire report, after crews determined there was no gas or electricity in the building . Dominic Ciotola, battalion chief of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, told KPIX that homeless people lived in the building.

KTVU reports that the building has also been the site of several fires in the past year, including fires inside. Ciotola told KTVU that some past fires appeared to have been “intentionally started”.
