Cedar Rapids has a new Soul Food restaurant [PHOTOS]

I hope you are hungry!

This morning while scrolling through Facebook, I came across the menu of a restaurant I had never heard of before. I assumed the place must be out of town, but was glad to see it had an address in Cedar Rapids! The restaurant is called Mom Beadsand it is located inside a building called Local at 4444 1st Ave NE, right next to Firestone Complete Auto Care in the Lindale Mall parking lot.

Depending on the menu, Mama Pearls offers a variety of classic soul dishes. Main courses include fried catfish, okra, cod nuggets, smothered pork chops, gizzards and livers, and fried chicken wings. But it wouldn’t be soul food without the sides! The menu lists mac and cheese, fried cabbage, cornbread, and green yams as some of the options. For dessert, customers can enjoy banana pudding, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and more.

Mama Pearls is already getting rave reviews on social media. Facebook page Ambassador of Flavors wrote that mac and cheese is the “the most authentic soul food macaroni and cheese I have found in this area,” and added that the “The pork chops were thick and tender. They had the same sauce I remember from the best soul food restaurants in the south. His food made me happy to be sitting here eating it.”

Mama Pearls has held a “soft opening” for the past few days, but the full menu has been available since yesterday, February 22. You can call (319) 693-7730 to place your order.
