Atlanta gets its first vegan Indian street food restaurant

This week, Atlanta gets its first vegan Indian street food restaurant with the opening of Dash and Chutney. Chef and Food Network personality Palak Patel opened the restaurant as a tribute to his upbringing and created a menu that embraces traditional Indian dishes with a herbal twist.

Chef Patel received culinary training at the French Institute in New York and is best known for his appearances on the Food Network, including Chopped, Food web star, Defeat Bobby Flay, and Hungry for money. Before moving to Atlanta at the age of 12, Chef Patel grew up in a vegetarian household in India, where she watched her mother cook traditional meals with “a pinch of this and a pinch of that.” As a child, Patel also remembers enjoying the local Indian street food, discovering the bold textures, colors and flavors of the dishes.

“I describe my food as Indian full of flavor. I have always imagined my restaurant concept, whatever it may be, as a vegetal menu. Not only is it reminiscent of my culture and my childhood, but it’s simply better for the environment – and I want to share this delight with others, showing them that it’s not only good for you, but also for the environment. planet, ”Patel told VegOut.

Dash and Chutney join Chattahoochee Food Works in Atlanta

Dash and Chutney joins Atlanta’s Chattahoochee Food Works lobby as the first concept of plant-based Indian street food. Chef Patel developed the menu to include some of his favorite street foods from India, such as Samosa Chaat and Sev Papdi Chaat (Indian nachos), Vada Pav (a popular potato sandwich with chutneys) and sandwiches. grilled Mumbai cheese with onions, tomatoes and a unique blend of spices.
