A new Indian street food restaurant will soon open in a much-missed former bar
An Indian street food restaurant is set to open early in the New Year in a former Leicester bar.
Saffron Street will open in London Road, in premises formerly occupied by The Lansdowne, which closed at the end of 2020.
There is currently only one other Saffron Street branch, in Ilford, east London.

The new restaurant is launched by a local franchisee, who is keen to offer diners the opportunity to enjoy the “good food and atmosphere” of Saffron Street.
They told LeicestershireLive: “We will keep the old Lansdowne pub very lively and a place where everyone can come and enjoy the food.”

It is intended to be a family restaurant, with a relaxed and warm atmosphere, and a tempting selection of delicious and beautifully presented dishes.
Excellent service and excellent hospitality are also promised.
Saffron Street will serve Indian street food, Indochinese fusion and classic desserts.
Diners can expect to be taken on a culinary journey, as the restaurant explores ingredients and flavors from the streets of India which are then reinvented in Saffron Street cuisine.
Dishes on the menu include pani puri, samosa chaat and masala chips, as well as pav bhaji, tawa pomfret and masala dosa, and murgh malai tikka, lamb chops and tandoori tofu.
There is also a selection of thalis, such as chandi chowk from China and lamb musallam.
Indochinese dishes include chili paneer, gobi lasooni, and dhamaka prawns, while desserts include rasmalai cake, tiramisu milk cake, and fried kulfi falooda.

Guests can enjoy drinks such as mocktails, milkshakes and chai.
Experienced staff are currently sought by the restaurant, with positions available such as chefs, waiters/waitresses, receptionist, bartender and kitchen porter.
